Automotive UX After Peak Display
This essay was written by Dr. Peter Rössger, a global HMI keynote speaker and UX expert, based on his firsthand observations at CES 2026. According to Peter, CES 2026 marked a turning point for automotive UX. Over the past decade, the automotive industry has focused intensely on digital cockpits and ever-larger displays, but that trend is now approaching its peak, and the era of the “post-screen interface” is beginning to emerge. In the future, vehicle UX will expand into multimodal interfaces that combine voice, haptics, lighting, sound, and physical feedback, while AI will fundamentally reshape the relationship between humans and vehicle systems.
